Here’s a slightly different take on the heater. A personal heater that only one person can feel. At the Winter Olympics in Pyongyang, it’s bitter cold. In fact, it’s so cold, that many of the athletes are being given coats with heaters built right in!
Ralph Lauren has created a winter parka with a heating system sewn right in. There’s an American flag stitched into the back inside of the jacket that is made from conductive ink. This remarkable piece of heating technology was designed by the company’s chief innovation officer, David Lauren, who has been researching it for last 18 months.
The little-entwined heater is power-driven by a battery pack that tucks snuggly into one of the pockets, and it can last for up to 11 hours. The adopted technology came from heated car seats. It was Ralph Lauren apparel designers that took the tech and made it more flexible and stretchy to accommodate a world-class athlete wearing a winter parka.
Over 700 athletes from the Team USA Olympics and Paralympics (along with coaches and staff) were given a parka with the very cool heating mechanism. Sadly, this personalized technology won’t be available to the public anytime soon. So, it’s very necessary to make sure you maintain your heater correctly.
